Props and equipment used

For the pictures SHENIYA JAY & AAYZA have to dress to impress looking all hot so clothing really is the main factor. The main equipment that will be used is a camera to take the pictures
For the scene of Jay being tied up we will use a spot light a rope to tie him and a chair.
Not many props will be used for the three minute sequel as everything will be simple set to give it that realistic look. It all depends on how well we really film the scenes.

LOCATION

Location

For our location we decided to use Sutton Park as one of our locations the scene that takes place between Aayza and Sheniya will be filmed there because we want it to give an forest effect.

For the scene of Jay being tied we will be using the drama studio in college because it is a dark room and we want to use the spot light to focus on Jay (SHUHAN) showing a close up of him this will give a great effect to the video making it look more realistic in terms of location. We have got permission from my teacher Chris to film there he has kindly agreed to it.

ROLL ALLOCATION

WRITER- Misbah Qayum

DIRECTOR- Misbah Qayum and Tariq Mahmood

EDITOR - Tariq Mahmood

CAMERA PEOPLE - Misbah Qayum and Tariq Mahmood

CASTING

SHENIYA - played by Misbah Qayum (me) we felt that i could play the crazy ex as I study Drama so i would be good at it. Plus I love playing psycho's and i know exactly what Sheniya is about so I would know exactly how to portray her across the screen.
Jay- played by Shuhan Islam- We felt that Shuhan will be able to play Jay as he fitted the characterisation he is a fun loving guy. We believed that he will be able to act well as he has done acting before. Overall he has the looks and the personality he is the perfect package a preety boy with brains too. He will be great on screen and is very photogenic...
Aayza- played by Savita Sandhu- We chose her because we thought that she has the look for the role a cute fun loving girl. She looks very innocent and Aayza is innocent to some extent she will fit well in the role and she has a great ability to put her across the screen well.

Final Pitch

PITCH

We have chosen idea 3 because we felt that we could put the story line across the audience clearly and present the it very well. We thought visually of how we will present it in the three minute sequel. We also chose this as we believed that this is a great idea for a thriller. The main factors of a thriller considered whilst we came up with the idea e.g the generic codes and conventions.

Script

Script

LEARNING TO LOVE AGAIN

Opening scene- Flashbacks of the three main characters
Picture 1. Amir and Sheniya getting hitched (picture will be in black and white to show the difference between the years).
Picture 2. Aayza and Jay having fun and just enjoying themselves ( this will be in colour).
Check Spelling
There will be a few pictures each of the couples just showing them having fun

During the flashbacks there will be a voice which will be introducing the characters.

Narration- " This is a story about three people all different from one another named Sheniya, Jay and Aayza. About the triangle of the lives of these people that occurs when they cross paths".
( While this will be said there will be a close up of the pictures)

First shot- Sheniya running towards Aayza shouting
"In gonna kill you run as much as you want you won't escape and that's a promise you little princess no one can help hahaha"
( here she is looking at Aayza in such a way which shows how evil she is and showing that she has something planned)

Aayza is looking terrified she turns back and looks at Sheniya ( close up) and shouts
"What have i done to you? Why do you wanna kill me so bad? i don't even know you"!!
Sheniya- " you cow you know what you done you took my Amir away from me no one takes him away from me his mine ok? no one NOT EVEN YOU YOU and if they try they die do you hear me?"!!
Aayza
"Who is AMIR I don't know anyone named AMIR"

Whilst this is going on you have another scene where Jay is shown tied up he is struggling to free himself but can't. Eventually he does manage to escape and comes to Aayza's rescue!!! ( there is a close up of Jay looking all distressed)

Christian Metz and his development of genre theory

Christian Metz was born in 1931 and died 1993. He was a French Film Theorist best known for pioneering the application Ferdinand de Saussure's theories of semiotics to film. During the 1970's his work had a great impact of film theory in France, Britain and the United States.
In Film language: A semiotics of cinema , Metz focuses on narrative structure- proposing the grand Syntagmatique of system for catogorizing scenes in films.
Metz applied both Sigmund's Frueds psychology and Jacques Lacan's mirror theory to the cinema, proposing that the reason film is popular as an art form lies in its ability to both be an imperfect reflection of reality and as a method to delve into the unconscious dream state.
Film Language represents essays from the early stages of Metz’ attempt to found a cinesemiotics. His later work has somewhat superseded this book. Language and Cinema , recently translated and published by Mouton, Belgium, is mostly a recanting of this earlier work. However, Film Language will undoubtedly be the most available and widely read, at least until his later work is also taken up by U.S. publishers. It is easy to take critical potshots at this book; it was a beginning book, opening a new field of inquiry. Cinéthique has already done an extensive analysis of the book and made many important criticisms concerning the relationship of Metz’ theory to his bourgeois ideology. However, it might be more fruitful to try to see what kind of space the book opens up for us in terms of thinking about aesthetics/ideology/cinema and to look at its mistakes as theoretical pitfalls to be avoided. For, even though Metz’ notion of a cinesemiotics and of what constitutes a cinematic code is not yet fully formulated in this book and is there even very misleading, it can still be helpful as a beginning for thinking about films in terms of a culturally and ideologically determined heterogeneity of codes rather than as original and unique expressions of certain “human” themes.
Christian Metz believed that their were four stages to the genre developement theory:
  • Classical
  • Experimental
  • Parody
  • Decontruction

Classical-structuring on narrative, mainly victorious/define era

Experimental- encircles generic codes and conventions of a thriller

Parody- Conventions have been deformised

Deconstruction- Generic essentials of thriller varied with current genres such as horror and thriller. Where other genres elements and sub genre's are introduced.

  • Se7en- Frankenstein (1931) - Classy/Classical- Dracula (1931)
  • Classy/Classical- Carry on screaming - Parody
  • Nosferatu (1922) - Experimental-
  • The cabinet of Dr Caligari (1919)
  • Experimental- Scary movie - Parody-
  • Abbot and Costello meet Frankinstein (1948) - Parody
  • Blair witch project - Deconstruction
  • Scream - Deconstruction-
  • The sixth sence - Deconstruction

These above are examples of the various stages in Metz theory

Questionnaire Results

The majority of people we surveyed were male (60%). All participants were aged between 16-19 years old. 70% of the sample were White, 10% were African, 15% were Pakistani and 5% were Indian.
The whole sample was categorized as Working Middle Class citizens in the social grade. They all expected to see blood, suspense and explosions in a classic thriller. Only a minority (20%) expected to see some sort of love interest in a thriller. When we put the question across of what genre would you prefer the people's immediate reaction to answer thriller. Hence this would reflect on the amount of males we surveyed for our questionnaire.
Most people have seen the movies Scary movie, Jaws and God father these are typical common thrillers. Scary movie is a Warner Bros production this could also have some sort of impact on the success of the film as Warner Bros are a very huge American film company.
People felt that God father, Jaws and Scary movie were the most successful thrillers of all times. Jaws was chosen as the all time favourite prouduction this is still classed as the best in today's generation. The results are a reflection on the popularity and success of the film it won alot of awards and made alot of money. The number of people are visting the cinema has increased alot of people prefer watching films on a big screen they like the whole theatre effect. There are alot of pirate copies of DVD'S around but still the increase in sales of cinemas have not been affected by this.
Overall the genre thriller was most popular amongst all the people we surveyed. This gives us a reflection of what our target audience would expect to see in a classic thriller. This has helped us alot in our planning of our production of the three minute sequel tas we are given.
